Aston Villa player ratings v Cardiff: This 26-year-old was exposed

COMMENT by Amir Mir

Football Insider rates the Aston Villa players out of ten following their 1-0 defeat to Cardiff on Monday afternoon.

Mark Bunn 2 – Another mistake from the shot-stopper who should have kept out the goal from the corner. Steve Bruce needs to invest in a new keeper between the sticks.

Alan Hutton 5 – Solid at the back, but didn’t provide anything going forward. Another position where Bruce needs to add quality in.

James Chester 4 – The Welshman is usually reliable at the back, but he struggled to stop Cardiff from causing problems all afternoon. Chester’s passing and decision-making was in particular poor today.

Nathan Baker 4 – The Bluebirds caused havoc for 60 minutes and Baker was all over the place during that period.

Jordan Amavi 4 – According to owner Tony Xia, Villa rejected £25 million for his services. At this moment in time, they should accept that hefty offer. He loses the ball far too often and needs to cut out small but costly mistakes from his game.

Gary Gardner 3 – The academy graduate is failing to bring any consistency to the team. Bruce decided to substitute him for an attacker at the break as Villa were under the cosh.

Ashley Westwood 1 – Rightfully substituted at half time. The midfielder failed to bring any defensive or attacking quality to the team. The absence of Mile Jedinak exposed the 26-year-old who failed to inspire his team in Wales. He needs to be sold.

Albert Adomah 4 – The winger didn’t provide enough service for McCormack, another player who didn’t stand up in a difficult game.

Leandro Bacuna 4 – Very quiet display from Bacuna, who doesn’t really bring any special qualities to the team.

Jack Grealish 5 – He had a poor first half and showed some fight after the interval. Needs to do a lot more when on the ball.

Ross McCormack 4 – Not good enough to play as a lone striker, even though he has succeeded in that role for other clubs. Despite a poor showing from the team, he was still unable to inspire his team in attack.
