Aston Villa plot January swoop for PL striker in scorching goalscoring form after injury bombshell - report
Aston Villa are plotting a loan swoop for Swansea striker Oliver McBurnie when the transfer window re-opens in January, according to a report
The Mirror claimed in their live transfer blog on Monday [01:49AM] that the Championship promotion hopefuls are looking to snap up McBurnie, 21, as a replacement for Jonathan Kodjia who is set to miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury.
Kodjia’s injury bombshell leaves the Villains short of options up front and that may lead Steve Bruce to make a loan bid for Swansea’s Scotland Under-21 international who has been in scorching goalscoring form in Premier League 2 this season.
For Swansea’s Under-23s side, McBurnie has netted a brilliant nine goals in six Premier League 2 matches and has even started to appear more regularly in the first-team with seven appearances off the bench in England’s top-flight.
The Mirror claims that Aston Villa are short of funds ahead of January so Bruce is looking to make the most of the loan market by setting his sights on the Swans’ target man.

McBurnie is a decent striker option but his lack of experience could be a reason why Aston Villa should avoid him. The Scottish forward is great in the air and has a brilliant record with the Swansea Under-23 side, but when given a chance in first-team football, he struggles to find the net. McBurnie would add something different to Bruce’s attack though. While most of the strikers at Villa Park are pacey and quick off the mark, McBurnie offers a lot of physicality and may be a good option to bring off the bench when looking to switch up the style of play. It remains to be seen if Villa will make an approach for the forward, but they definitely need someone in that position in January.
In other Aston Villa news, the club are also in pursuit of this 11 goal forward who may be sold by a Premier League club in January.
