Four big names won't be around for Aston Villa first day after stance reported - pundit
Aston Villa players still away with their national sides may miss the first game of 2021-22 after being handed extended breaks by the club.
That is according to ex-Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Villa’s international stars.
The Express and Star reported on 3rd July that Jack Grealish, Tyrone Mings, Emiliano Martinez and Douglas Luiz will all be given ample time to recover.
Grealish and Mings are with England at the Euros while Martinez (Argentina) and Luiz (Brazil) are into the latter stages of the Copa America.
The majority of Villa’s first-team squad meanwhile returned to training at Bodymoor Heath on Monday (5th July).
Kenny insisted that handing the quartet sufficient recovery time is the right move by the club.

“You definitely need some time to recover,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
“You might miss them for a game or two at the start of the season but the bigger picture is, do you want them for the rest of the season?
“If you don’t give them time to recuperate, they could break down, you could see them miss a longer period rather than just having to miss a game or two.
“The sports science department will have it all planned out. You do need that two or three weeks break though. I’d be surprised if they don’t get that off.“
Dean Smith’s side kick off their season away to Premier League new boys Watford on 14th August.
They play Walsall, Stoke City, Nottingham Forest and Sevilla as part of their pre-season programme.
