Aston Villa plotting raid for 29-year-old Norwegian, available on a free - report

Aston Villa are keen on bringing Norwegian defender Vegard Forren to the Midlands this summer, according to a report.
Norway’s Eurosport claim that the Championship outfit want the 29-year-old defender in order to bolster Steve Bruce’s defensive ranks, with Forren available on a free.
According to the Brighton Argus, Aston Villa were said to be keen on the former Southampton defender back in March but the 33-time Norway international joined Brighton instead.
However, the commanding centre-back has failed to earn a permanent deal at Brighton following their promotion to the Premier League.
That will see Forren leave the Amex Stadium this summer, with his current contract set to expire on June 30.

Now, Bruce is said to be interested in reigniting previous reported interest in Brighton’s number 25, after he failed to make a single appearance with Chris Hughton’s side.
Forren has endured nightmare stays in England, after he was unable to play for Southampton’s first team during his six-month stay with the Saints in 2013.
But it could be third time lucky for Forren on these shores, if Bruce does make Forren an offer with the Midlands side.
Football Insider verdict:
Villa need a new centre-back this summer as Bruce looks to leave no stone unturned in order to challenge the Championship’s biggest sides in order to clinch a fifth career promotion from the second tier of English football. Captain James Chester has shone at the back during 2016-17, but Bruce has failed to find a permanent partner for the Wales international as he continues to flutter between Tommy Elphick and Nathan Baker. Bringing in experienced ace Forren, who is just seven matches short of reaching a landmark 300 appearances of Molde, could provide Bruce with the defensive basis to allow the rest of his side to attack.
In other Aston Villa transfer news, the agent of this 27-year-old is reportedly in talks with a Champions League side.
