Aston Villa starlet Louie Barry will score "many goals" if he applies himself on loan at Ipswich Town.

So says Villa Park icon Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Villa confirmed the 18-year-old's loan exit on 6 August.

Barry, who signed from Barcelona in January last year, made his debut for the Tractor Boys in a 1-0 League Cup loss to Newport County on 10 August.

The young striker scored on his first and only senior Villa appearance in a League Cup defeat to Liverpool in January.

Agbonlahor claims there is a clear pathway to the first team for Barry if he impresses in League One with Ipswich.

"I think it is a good move for him," he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

"He can go and show what he can do, get some first-team experience. It's just a perfect move to go and show Dean Smith what he is capable of.

"He can go and then come back and get himself involved in the first team next season.

"It will be very hard to get opportunities in the first team this season because Aston Villa have got a really big squad.

"So it makes sense to go out on loan to League One and prove yourself. He can get himself into the first-team next season.

"Barry needs to focus, work hard, train hard. I'm sure if he does all that then he will score many goals."
