Aston Villa in talks to sign PL striker, bitter Midlands rivals also in pursuit - Sky Sports

Aston Villa are one of three Midlands clubs in talks to sign Southampton striker Sam Gallagher on loan, according to a report.
Sky Sports claimed in their live transfer blog on Thursday [07:36pm] that Derby and Villa’s bitter local rivals Birmingham are also in pursuit of the 21-year-old.
It is understood that the three sides have held initial talks over taking Gallagher on a season-long loan deal.
Sun reporter Alan Nixon claimed on his personal Twitter account last week that Wolves are also in the race for the Premier League striker, but it is said that Southampton are demanding hefty prices for any kind of deal which would see him leave St. Mary’s, whether it be on a temporary or permanent basis.
Gallagher spent last season on loan with Blackburn but couldn’t do enough to stop them enduring relegation to League One.

He scored 12 goals in 47 appearances across all competitions, with one of his strikes coming against Aston Villa in the West Midlands in early November.
Football Insider Verdict
Gallagher showed last season that he can get among the goals in quite a poor side. However Aston Villa do not have a lot to spend and it seems that Southampton want a big fee for Gallagher to leave the club on loan. There has to be options out there for Villa where they can snap up young players on cheaper deals. They can’t push the limits of Financial Fair Play just because of their poor start. It seems that Bruce may have to get the best out of the players he already has and with Jonathan Kodjia seemingly the only striker who is capable of scoring, it could be yet another very long season for the club’s supporters.
In other Aston Villa news, Bruce has responded to the reported interest in this top-flight star.
