Pundit: Aston Villa have 'stupid money to spend' as source shares Ward-Prowse update
James Ward-Prowse’s desire to swap Southampton for Aston Villa is understandable – they are a “massive club” with “stupid money” to spend.
That is according to ex-Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest in the Ward-Prowse saga.
This site revealed on 21st June that the 26-year-old midfielder is keen on a move to Villa.
That comes after Football Insider first broke news on 16th June that club owners Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris are ready to splash the cash to lure the Southampton skipper to Villa Park.
Ward-Prowse signed a five-year contract with the Saints in August 2020 and has been with the club since the age of eight.
But Kenny sympathises with the eight-cap England man for wanting to join a club as ambitious as Villa.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “I can see why he might want to move on. He’s been there for something like 20 years.
“He might need a fresh start because things can get stale. Sometimes you need something different to aim for.
“He’s still a pretty young lad so from his point of view I can see why he’s pushing for a move. Villa are a massive club with massive potential.
“They’ve got the potential to go out there and spend stupid money like they already have done.”
Villa have already added Emiliano Buendia and Ashley Young to their roster this transfer window.
Ward-Prowse has scored 33 times in 322 appearances for Southampton.
