Robinson fears McGinn will quit Aston Villa after 'massive' Athletic reveal
Paul Robinson has claimed it would be a “massive blow” to Aston Villa if John McGinn was to join Liverpool this summer.
Speaking exclusively go Football Insider, the ex-England number one suggested the 26-year-old is irreplaceable to Dean Smith’s side and pointed to Villa’s struggles when McGinn was out for six months at the start of 2020.
According to The Athletic (23 June), Liverpool have a “very real” interest in the Scotland international who is valued by Villa at close to £50million.
The midfielder has been one of the Claret and Blue’s standout performers since his arrival from Hibernian in August 2018.
A product of St Mirren’s academy, McGinn was rewarded with a new five-year deal in December of last year.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if Villa could afford to lose McGinn, Robinson said: “It would be a massive blow to Aston Villa.

“I’m not sure they can afford to lose John McGinn. You saw how much the team missed him when he was not in it, it was similar to when Villa didn’t have Grealish for that period.
“Dean Smith will not want to break up that team because they had an amazing season last year.
“There is talking of Grealish going and if they lost both it would be a nightmare. It would be a big rebuild from there.
“I think they would have a real problem if they lost McGinn and for that reason I think it would take a huge bid from Liverpool.”
