Aston Villa tipped to blow Tottenham out of the water amid Ward-Prowse latest - pundit
Kevin Phillips claims Aston Villa have an edge over Tottenham in the hunt for Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse.
The Sunderland legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest Southampton transfer news.
On 6th August, Football Insider revealed the Saints had rejected a £25million bid for Ward-Prowse from Villa.
On 11th August, The Telegraph reported Tottenham and Villa are preparing bids for the midfielder.
It is understood the Saints have no intention of cashing in on the midfielder and will knock back all offers for him this summer.
Ward-Prowse, 26, is a vital cog in the Southampton machine, scoring eight goals and chipping in with eight assists in the Premier League last season.

Phillips insists Villa hold the cards at the moment but that could change if Tottenham sell Harry Kane.
“Aston Villa hold the cards,” Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“They have the finances from the Grealish deal but if Tottenham sell Kane it’s anyone’s game.
“From the player’s point of view, he knows what’s going on.
“Southampton have lost Danny Ings and Jannick Vestergaard, he’s been there a while, he’s a brilliant England international as well.
“He might just want a piece of the action. It would not surprise me if Villa went in for a serious bid before the window closes.”
Aston Villa lost their first Premier League game of the season to new boys Watford.
New signings Leon Bailey and Danny Ings contributed as Dean Smith’s side lost 3-2.
