Phillips tips Ndombele to explode at new club as Tottenham exit is 'confidently' close reportedly
Kevin Phillips insists Tanguy Ndombele is a quality player amid fresh speculation over his Tottenham future.
The Sunderland legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims Spurs must let the midfielder leave if he wants to go.
As quoted by The Athletic (9th August), Nuno Espirito Santo revealed Ndombele was not injured when he was left out of Spurs’ final pre-season clash against Arsenal.
A further report from the same outlet on 10th August claimed there is “confidence” a deal to take the midfielder away from Spurs can be done.
Ndombele, 24, started 28 Premier League games for Tottenham last season.
Phillips insists he’s a fan of Ndombele and backed him to thrive if he does leave Spurs this summer.

“I backed Ndombele from day one,” Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“I saw enough to think he would be a quality player once he settled.
“He had a spell under Jose Mourinho when he looked excellent. It’s clear the player and the club don’t suit each other.
“Unfortunately, that happens in football. If he wants to leave you need to let him go.
“The key is to get back what you paid for him but that might be a challenge.
“The new manager doesn’t want players who don’t want to be there.
“I’m surprised he wants to leave because there is a player in there.
“I honestly think he’ll find a new club and get back to his best so Tottenham fans are asking ‘why did we sell him’?”
Ndombele joined Tottenham in the summer of 2019.
He remains their record signing after arriving for a £55million fee.
