Aston Villa tipped to complete senior star signing after Kalinic news - Hutton
Alan Hutton has tipped Aston Villa to sign a new backup goalkeeper after allowing Lovre Kalinic to leave on loan.
The former Villa defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested Dean Smith would want a second or third-choice shot-stopper to cover and compete with Emiliano Martinez and Jed Steer.
As confirmed on July 11th, Kalinic has rejoined Hajduk Split on loan for the upcoming campaign.
The 31-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at the Croatian outfit.
He came through the youth ranks at Split before leaving for Gent in 2017.
Tom Heaton has also left Villa Park to rejoin Manchester United after his contract came to an end.

With Martinez and Steer as Smith’s only senior goalkeeping options, Hutton suggested Villa would head into the market for more backup.
Asked if he thought Villa would now sign a new goalkeeper, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Possibly. It just really depends.
“You would have thought they would have looked to bring in someone just in case. Somebody in case there was an injury, touch wood there’s not.
“If there was an injury and someone was out over a long period of time, we’d need that cover. It wouldn’t surprise me if they had their eye on someone who could fit that bill.
“Not necessarily somebody who’s going to come in and really challenge but somebody, if called upon, they’re good enough to fill the role.
“Kalinic, it didn’t really work out. He was there when I was there and he didn’t really get the game time that he was after. It was always kind of a problem area for us.
“We were always changing keepers so it’s good to see him go back home.
“I would guess that Dean Smith would look to bring somebody in just for covering purposes.”
