Sources: Aston Villa set to sign Azaz from West Brom and loan him to Newport County

Aston Villa are set to sign Finn Azaz from West Brom and loan him straight out to Newport County, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

This site broke the news earlier today that Villa have reached an agreement to land the 20-year-old from their Midlands rivals.  

A Villa source has told Football Insider that the club will complete the signing and then loan Azaz to League Two outfit Newport for the season.

The rising star made a big impact while on loan at Cheltenham Town last season.

He contributed three goals and two assists in 44 appearances across all competitions as the Robins gained promotion from the fourth tier of English football.

A product of West Brom’s academy, Azaz never made a senior appearance the Baggies.

The centre-midfielder will become the latest talent to switch The Hawthorns for Villa Park this year.

Aston Villa have already agreed to sign Tim Iroegbunam and will pay a six-figure compensation fee to their neighbours for the 18-year-old.

As revealed by Football Insider (14th April), Dean Smith’s side have also set their sights on signing 16-year-old Fenton Heard from The Hawthorns.

Newport County manager Michael Flynn is keen to add Asaz to his squad having been impressed by his performances in League Two last season.

The Exiles hope to go one better next season after narrowly missing out on promotion via the play-offs in the 2020-21 campaign.
