Aston Villa told to hijack Edouard deal after Celtic reveal - Agbonlahor

Gabby Agbonlahor has called on Aston Villa to hijack Leicester City’s deal for Celtic ace Odsonne Edouard.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer insisted the “outstanding” striker would be the perfect foil for Ollie Watkins.

Football Insider revealed on June 8 that Edouard has told friends he is quitting Celtic and moving to Leicester City to reunite with former boss Brendan Rodgers.

The Scottish Sun reported on June 7 the two clubs have agreed a £15million fee for the Frenchman.

Asked whether Celtic are right to strike a deal so early, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “100 per cent.

“They’ll want to get that done and get the right money in. Then the new manager can spend that on new players for the squad.

“I’ve said it for so long about Edouard, I rate him highly. If I had the money, I’d buy him myself. I think he’s outstanding and I’d love him at Aston Villa as the second striker behind Watkins.

“I think he’d be an outstanding player to bring on during games or to help Watkins. I think Aston Villa should hijack Leicester and go and get him.

“I watched him and he reminds me of [Moussa] Dembele when he was at Celtic. They’re both similar players and at his age, he can only get better.”

Edouard, 23, has scored 83 goals and provided 37 assists in 168 games for Celtic after joining, initially on loan, from Paris Saint-Germain in 2017.

He did not achieve his best form in the recently-completed campaign but still found the net 22 times in 40 appearances.

In other news, Celtic “already have a striker lined up” to replace exit-bound Edouard.
