Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Aston Villa to keep hold of Danny Ings for the 2022-23 season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Aston Villa's record Premier League goalscorer insisted Ings showed enough in his debut season in the 2021-22 campaign that he deserves to be kept around.

Ings only moved to Villa Park last summer (2021) in a surprise £30million move from Southampton.

Asked for his verdict on Ings' future, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: "They should keep him.

"He's showed he can score goals. Yes, he could have had a better season but he's shown his quality in games with his movement and his finishing and he got the goal of the season.

"He's a top striker and I feel with just Watkins available, I'd keep Ings and I'd keep Cameron Archer then I'd go and get maybe one more.

"If he didn't get one more then the rise of Cameron Archer could solve that problem.

"With Ings' standards and how good he is at finishing, he'll want to get double figures every season he plays because he's a quality striker."

Ings scored seven times and provided six in 31 Premier League games for Aston Villa in the 2021-22 season.

His overhead kick in the 2-0 win over Newcastle United in August won the club's goal of the season award.
