Bruce claims this Aston Villa deal would be like winning the lottery

Steve Bruce has claimed that it would be extraordinary for Gabriel Agbonlahor if he were to secure a new Aston Villa contract in his 30s.
The Birmingham Mail report that the veteran striker’s situation has been thrust into the spotlight once again by his derby-day winner against Birmingham last weekend.
It was the first goal of the season for Agbonlahor from 477 minutes of league action spread across 12 appearances, four of which have been starts and eight as a substitute.
Supporters of the club offered mixed verdicts on the three-times former England international’s strike against Birmingham, given the controversies and fitness issues that have surrounded him in recent times.
The Birmingham Mail point out that “Bruce himself admitted that at Agbonlahor’s age, earning a new deal now would be like winning the lottery”.

The boyhood Villa fan’s current deal runs until the summer of 2018, by which time he will be four months short of his 32nd birthday.
He is said to be one of Villa’s highest earners even though he took a pay cut following the club’s relegation to the Championship last summer.
Agbonlahor is behind leading scorer Jonathan Kodjia and January signing Scott Hogan in the striker pecking order under Bruce.
However, the Villa academy product is ahead of Ross McCormack, who has flopped since joining from Fulham for £12million last summer.
McCormack is on loan at Nottingham Forest but is out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery.
In other Aston Villa transfer news, the club have been installed hot favourites to sign a 25-goal striker ripping up one of the world’s toughest leagues.
