Aston Villa are one of three teams interested in Newcastle United attacker Rolando Aarons, according to a report.
The Mirror claimed in their live transfer blog on Monday [10:39PM] that Aarons, 22, is at the centre of a transfer tug of war with Huddersfield, Crystal Palace and Villa all keen on signing him with the hope of sealing a cut-price deal.
Rafa Benitez has barely used Aarons this season, handing him just one start across all competitions and sending him to play with the Under-23s.
However the former England youth international revealed his frustrations last month, saying that he was fed up of playing with the development side.
It is understood that his lack of game time has alerted Aston Villa and the two Premier League sides, who may see Aarons as a viable option to sign in the January transfer window.
The rapid winger has made just three appearances across all competitions in the Magpies first-team this season.
Football Insider Verdict
Villa could probably do with a bit more pace in their side and Aarons would be a good buy if they were able to get him in. It’s strange how Benitez hasn’t used him more at Newcastle this season. The Magpies are in a poor run of form and could benefit from switching things up to give Aarons some more game time. Jacob Murphy and Matt Ritchie haven’t been playing well as of late so it’s not like the current first-team wingers are giving any reason why Aarons should be left out. But Newcastle’s loss could be Villa’s gain and with the West Midlands club sitting pretty in the Championship, they could be an attractive proposition over Huddersfield and Palace who may be in a relegation battle.
