After Emiliano Buendia, 'outstanding' Aston Villa player should be next to land new deal
Emiliano Buendia appears to have played his way into a new contract at Aston Villa, emerging as one of Unai Emery's key stars.
The 2026-27 campaign has been difficult for everyone at Villa Park, and with just one goal contribution to his name, Buendia can't escape criticism.
But with 11 goals and nine assists in all competitions last term, the 29-year-old has done everything possible to make the Villans successful on the pitch.
After the departures of several high-profile players, the Argentine is now one of Unai Emery's most important figures, especially in the final third.
Things finally look to be on the up for Villa, which will most likely see an upturn in the player's form as well.
Whether he does improve or not over the coming weeks, very few can deny that he deserves to put pen to paper on a new deal until 2029.
Victor Lindelof has flown under the radar at Villa Park

But attention also needs to turn to another one of Emery's trusted stars, who was never expected to play such a big role after his arrival.
Described as "outstanding" and "hard done by" during the previous campaign by John McGinn, Victor Lindelof has surprised a lot of people.
Whether he's being asked to play in the centre of defence or the depths of midfield, there isn't anything he hasn't done since signing as a free transfer.
His two-year deal is set to expire next summer, though, and at 32 years of age, Lindelof undoubtedly has more to offer at Villa Park.
Which other Aston Villa players deserve new deals?
Lindelof won't be the only one feeling entitled to a new contract at Villa Park, as Buendia prepares to put pen to paper on his own.
Tyrone Mings, 33, is also coming to the end of his deal, having been at the club permanently since the summer of 2019.
Marco Bizot hasn't done much to impress, but with very limited back-up options between the sticks, a new contract would make sense for the goalkeeper.
And Amadou Onana, currently sidelined through injury, could sign a new deal to ensure that Villa's time and effort in getting him back isn't all for nothing.
