Aston Villa and Newcastle intensify Antonio Nusa pursuit as offers expected
RB Leipzig are expecting offers for Antonio Nusa after Aston Villa and Newcastle United joined the race, sources have told Football Insider.
The 21-year-old has enjoyed an impressive World Cup campaign with Norway and caught the eye after scoring a great goal during their 2-1 win against the Ivory Coast.
A number of Premier League clubs are believed to be keeping a close eye on his progress and could make moves to lure him to England as a result of his displays.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, both Aston Villa and Newcastle have been keeping a close eye on Nusa in recent weeks.
Both clubs are looking to bolster their wide options this summer, with Unai Emery keen to strengthen his squad, while Eddie Howe seeks a replacement for Anthony Gordon.
However, Leipzig are reluctant to sell their star player this summer and are making plans to deter the growing interest as a result of his World Cup displays.
Could Antonio Nusa move to the Premier League this summer?
Football Insider revealed in May that Liverpool are interested in signing Nusa, but have other targets in mind and are more likely to look elsewhere for a new winger.
However, a move to the Premier League is expected to appeal to the Norway star, and the door may now be open for either Aston Villa or Newcastle to swoop.
Despite RB Leipzig's reluctance to let the winger move on this summer, clubs could soon make moves to test their resolve after the World Cup.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "There’ll be a host of Premier League clubs who would be interested in Antonio Nusa.
"His World Cup displays have attracted growing interest in him. Not unsurprsingly, he has done well for Norway to help them get to the quarter-finals.
"Aston Villa and Newcastle are both keeping tabs on the situation, so look, he’s having a good World Cup but RB Leipzig don't really want to lose him.
"They want to keep hold of Nusa, he's under contract until 2029 and it would take a huge fee if they are to let him leave.
"Leipzig are in a strong position due to his contract situation and they're under no immediate pressure to sell, but if he continues to shine like he has done for Norway at the World Cup I'm sure they'll be bracing themselves for offers."
Which other clubs are interested in signing Nusa?
Given his performances on the world stage this summer, Newcastle and Aston Villa are far from the only clubs considering moves to sign Nusa from Leipzig this summer.
A number of clubs across Europe are believed to have been keeping tabs on his situation, while some interest has lingered since his impressive spell at Club Brugge.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 7 July that Crystal Palace are big admirers of Nusa and have been watching him since missing out in 2024.
The winger was originally eyed as a replacement for Michael Olise following his move to Bayern Munich, but the Eagles ultimately missed out as he joined Leipzig.
However, they are now keen to reignite their interest and could make a move if they are given any indication he might become available.
