Aston Villa are keeping Morgan Rogers release clause under wraps
Aston Villa are providing no insight into whether or not Morgan Rogers has a release clause in his contract, sources have told Football Insider.
Unai Emery has lost both Youri Tielemans and Lucas Digne to release clauses which had not previously been public knowledge, leading to questions about other key players.
However, Aston Villa's public stance over the 23-year-old's future has been that he is not for sale, regardless of the growing interest and potential big-money offers.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Aston Villa are sticking with their £130million valuation of Rogers despite new speculation.
Growing interest from Arsenal has led to increasing doubts about his long-term future as part of Emery's side, but the club remain extremely reluctant to let him go.
Should he have a hidden release clause in his deal similar to those of Tielemans and Digne, however, it will be extremely difficult to prevent his departure.
What is Aston Villa's updated stance on Morgan Rogers?
Football Insider revealed on 3 July that Aston Villa will be caught in the "biggest story of the summer" regarding Rogers future and growing interest from Arsenal.
Emery's side are determined to keep their star man, who has signed multiple new contracts in the last 18 months as Villa aimed to secure his long-term future.
However, after the release clause drama surrounding Tielemans and Digne, fresh concerns have emerged about the attacking midfielder's future.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "He's obviously been heavily linked and a lot of clubs are chasing Morgan Rogers' signature this summer.
"We're not sure if he has a release clause or not. Obviously he signed a new deal last November which was one of several new contracts he's had in 18 months as well.
"That shows how much Aston Villa value Morgan Rogers, they've been keen to reward him with new contracts and he's under contract now until 2031.
"We don't know, Aston Villa haven't made it public knowledge whether or not he has a release clause in that latest deal.
"They have said he's not for sale, they've put a huge price tag on his head of £130million to try and warn off those interested clubs, but it remains to be seen if there is a clause."
Will Arsenal make a move to sign Rogers this summer?
Regardless of whether or not Rogers has a release clause in his contract, and despite Aston Villa's staunch stance over his future, Arsenal are not backing off in their interest.
Mikel Arteta views the England international as the next piece of the puzzle as he aims to improve on his Premier League winning squad this summer.
Football Insider revealed on 8 July that Arsenal must meet Aston Villa's £130million valuation if they are to sign Rogers, but that price tag has not put them off.
Plans are now being put in place to step up their pursuit, with hopes of luring the attacking midfielder to the Emirates, and some reports saying personal terms have been agreed.
Villa remain adamant that they will not be held to ransom, with Rogers still having five years left to run on his current contract, but will face a battle to block his exit.
