Aston Villa in talks with Premier League striker as Jonathan David alternative - journalist

Aston Villa have opened talks to sign a new centre-forward, but it is unlikely to be Juventus' Jonathan David this summer.

Unai Emery has already lost a huge creative force in Morgan Rogers, but thankfully, rumours surrounding an impending exit for Ollie Watkins have gone cold.

It was believed that the England international was closing in a move to Fenerbahce, leaving Tammy Abraham as the sole striker at Villa Park.

While supporters have been overall unhappy with the 26-year-old, he is unlikely to change club again this summer, at least not with a move to Villa Park.

However, the Villans do continue to negotiate terms with Chelsea for the signing of Nicolas Jackson, who spent last season on loan at Bayern Munich.

The Senegalese international has previous experience working under Emery at Villarreal, hence the strong connections with a move to the Midlands.

Multiple reports have suggested that the Blues want £65million, but a loan would be far more likely were Villa to make a move this summer.

Despite Villa kicking off their Premier League campaign against Brighton in just 10 days, there is still plenty of time for twists and turns.

Following Amadou Onana's likely season-ending injury, the midfield is extremely light for multiple competitions, while Emi Martinez could also leave.
