Aston Villa have been given encouragement in their pursuit of Nicolas Jackson this summer as Chelsea explore a move for Brighton and Hove Albion’s Danny Welbeck.
Football Insider exclusively revealed that the Midlands giants have registered their interest in 25-year-old striker and asked Chelsea about signing him in part-exchange during Morgan Rogers talks.
Now, it appears that the Blues are lining up a replacement, after it emerged that they have opened Welbeck talks.
A deal is in the early stages, but optimism on all sides suggests that a deal can be done over the coming weeks.
If all goes through, Chelsea will have five strikers on their books going into the 2026-27 campaign.
The Blues and Villa have already done numerous deals this summer, with Morgan Rogers moving to Stamford Bridge, while Alejandro Garnacho has moved to Villa Park.

Now, after Chelsea made a move for Welbeck, it is clear that they are gearing up for the departure of Jackson.
It is hard to believe that they would be looking to sign the Arsenal star without the sale of a striker being lined up.
Emmanuel Emegha has only just joined Chelsea, and Liam Delap is keen to prove himself under Xabi Alonso.
This leaves Marc Guiu and Jackson, and given Villa’s reported interest, surely a deal is on the verge of being sealed between the two clubs.

The Birmingham outfit are reportedly long-term admirers of the 25-year-old, who impressed at the Hill Dickinson Stadium last season.
A deal could prove to be tricky between the two clubs after Garner only signed a new contract until 2030 back in January.
However, it remains to be seen if Villa are able to get a deal over the line in the coming weeks as they prepare for the new 2026-27 campaign.
