Aston Villa make 'surprise' Alejandro Garnacho transfer plan after Unai Emery reveal

Aston Villa are planning to make Alejandro Garnacho's move from Chelsea permanent despite a slow start to life at Villa Park.

The 22-year-old joined Aston Villa on a season-long loan from Chelsea, with a conditional buy clause which could see them agree a permanent deal for a fee of £43million.

However, the Argentina international has already faced criticism for his performances, despite having played just 31 minutes across three Premier League appearances.

Former Aston Villa scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that he was surprised to see Garnacho join Villa in the summer, but plans are already in place to make the move permanent.

This comes after Unai Emery revealed the winger will be at Villa Park for a "long time" as he attempted to explain his lack of involvement in their opening Premier League games.

Just one year after his move from Man United to Chelsea, the Blues were keen to see Garnacho move on, but the money involved in his move to Villa Park has raised concerns.

Brown told Football Insider back in May that Chelsea had been hopeful of moving Garnacho on amid concerns about his performances and attituide on and off the pitch.

His eventual move to Aston Villa came as a surprise, but there is a feeling Emery can get the best out of him and make the deal worthwhile.

However, after a slow start to life at Villa Park, there will be questions asked as the club are already planning to make Garnacho's stay a permanent one.

"I was very surprised to see Aston Villa make a move for Garnacho in the first place," Brown told Football Insider.

"I've never been convinced by what he could offer them, and even in the first few games of the season, he's hardly featured, so it's definitely a strange one.

"Even stranger, though, is the fact it already seems they want to make the deal a permanent one, because the manager has said he wants to keep him for a long time.

"Maybe he's seen something we haven't, maybe he feels he can get the best out of him, but I would've thought he would have to do a lot more to earn that permanent move.

"It's a big fee involved as well, so you'd have thought that money could be invested elsewhere if Garnacho fails to impress.

"But as I say, it looks like Aston Villa are already planning to make that signing permanent from Chelsea, so good luck to them after his other clubs couldn't wait to move him on."

What are Aston Villa paying to land Garnacho?

Garnacho's move to Aston Villa has faced plenty of scrutiny amid questions asked about their reasons behind the move after his difficult spells at Man United and Chelsea.

However, the finances behind his deal look to be enticing, as former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson told Football Insider that Garnach's arrival on loan was a "no-brainer".

He explained that Villa are likely to pay in the region of £5m to have Garnacho in the squad, and will also pay his wages in full, but will not be forced into a permanent deal.

Should the winger prove to be a bad influence behind the scenes, or if he picks up an injury, Villa could still walk away, but it seems that is not currently in their plans.
