Aston Villa surely have a massive decision to make with Emi Buendia ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

The Argentina international's current contract at Villa Park expires in 2027 and the Lions may want to cash in on him in case he doesn't sign a new deal.

According to DSPORTS Radio on 3 June, the winger has been told to postpone his vacations and continue training as he could earn a last-minute call-up due to fitness issues in Argentina’s 26-man squad.

Unai Emery relied heavily on Buendia in the Europa League title-winning campaign, but the Spanish manager may have to reassess his plans depending on the forward's future.

While the Villans will be hoping to resolve the 29-year-old’s future soon, they may have to wait if he’s called up to the 2026 World Cup.

Emi Buendia can replace Argentine prospect

Argentine journalist Gaston Edul revealed on X on 3 June that Como playmaker Nico Paz is currently out injured.

As things stand, la Albiceleste plan to have the 21-year-old back in team training after their friendly game against Honduras on 7 June.

Paz had an impressive debut Serie A campaign playing under Cesc Fabregas, but may see Buendia replace him if he can’t be fit for the 2026 World Cup.

It was surprising to see the Villa star miss out on a chance to represent his country in the summer, but there could yet be hope for him.

Aston Villa have Emi Buendia contract priority amid exit speculations

Buendia has proven he can be a decisive player for Villa and it would make sense for them to hand him a new contract.

In 54 appearances in all competitions for the Villans during the 2025-26 season, the Argentine scored 11 goals and provided nine assists.

Sources told Football Insider back in April that Bayern Munich were eyeing Morgan Rogers and the 23-year-old England international was open to the move.

If the attacking-midfielder were to leave, Buendia is more than capable of playing as the number 10 to help fill the void of the former Middlesbrough star’s potential departure.
