Aston Villa's Nicolas Jackson 'concerns' intensify after Nottingham Forest incident

Aston Villa have concerns about Nicolas Jackson's temperament and attitude after what they saw against Nottingham Forest.

The 25-year-old was taken off at half-time during their 2-1 defeat, and Unai Emery explained the decision was made because the striker was at risk of being sent off.

The Senegal international picked up a yellow card in the first half, and the Villa bench decided not to risk him for the second half, instead turning to Tammy Abraham from the bench.

Former Aston Villa scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Jackson's "unstable" nature is a concern and could leave the club in a difficult position in the near future.

Jackson was brought to Villa Park by Emery, who used his strong relationship with the striker to tempt him into making the £47.5million move from Chelsea this summer.

However, concerns are growing just three games into his Aston Villa career, as their worries about his attitude before opting to bring him in have alraedy been confirmed.

Why are Aston Villa concerned about Nicolas Jackson?

Brown told Football Insider back in March that Aston Villa had concerns about signing Jackson and were instead set to assess their other options to strengthen up front.

Villa eventually turned their attentions back to Jackson in the closing stages of the summer window, but those concerns have now been made clear after his display against Forest.

Jackson received two red cards during his time at Chelsea and one in his short-term spell at Bayern Munich, while he frequently picks up yellow cards, and that is a worry.

"There have been concerns about Jackson's attitude since he was at Chelsea," Brown told Football Insider.

"It feels like I say the same thing every time we speak about him, but he has not proved me wrong so far, and this is a real concern and a big problem for the club as well.

"You can't be comfortable having a striker leading the line who you never know if he's going to complete 90 minutes because he might do something stupid and get sent off.

"That would've put me off making a move for him in the first place, because yes he's a talented striker, he might give them something they don't have up front.

"But he's an unstable character and it's never good to have that sort of player around the club, and it forces you into situations you don't want to be in."

Which other clubs were interested in signing Jackson?

Aston Villa eventually completed the signing of Jackson late in the summer transfer window, but they were not the only club keen to lure him away from Chelsea.

The Senegal international was highly sought after, with Chelsea prepared to let him move on as he had no future at Stamford Bridge due to the same concerns Villa held.

Football Insider revealed on 21 August that Tottenham had also made a move to sign Jackson, and were speaking to Chelsea about the possibility of reaching an agreement.

However, following Ollie Watkins' big-money move to Al Hilal, Emery's side accelerated their move to sign the striker and were able to beat their rivals to his signature.

Villa ultimately disregarded their concerns about the striker's attitude given their need for attacking reinforcements, but that may cost them long-term.
