Sources: Aston Villa and Tottenham make moves to sign Nicolas Jackson
Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur have made approaches for Chelsea star Nicolas Jackson, sources have told Football Insider.
The 25-year-old is widely expected to leave Chelsea in the closing stages of the summer transfer window, and contact has now been made by the Premier League duo.
Atletico Madrid and Napoli are also believed to have approached Chelsea over the striker's availability, with talks about a potential deal expected to ramp up in the coming days.
Following a strong loan spell at Bayern Munich last season, Jackson returned to Stamford Bridge, but remains down the pecking order under Xabi Alonso.
As a result, the Blues have been attempting to drum up interest, and will now assess their options as they attmept to maximise the value of his potential sale.
Jackson is under a long-term contract at Stamford Bridge until 2033, having penned a huge deal in 2024, but plans are now being put in place for him to move on.
Will Chelsea accept offers for Nicolas Jackson?
Football Insider frevealed in June that Jackson planned to fight for his place at Chelsea after returning from Stamford Bridge, as he aimed for a fresh start under Alonso.
However, the Senegal international has since been training separately from the main group at Cobham, with Chelsea now in active talks to cash in on him.
Aston Villa, Tottenham, Atletico Madrid and Napoli are all now lining up moves, and having made contact with Chelsea, are keen to assess what it would take to lure him away.
Despite being bombed out at Stamford Bridge, Jackson boasts an impressive record of 30 goals and 12 assists in 81 games, and remains very highly regarded elsewhere.
At Bayern Munich last season, the striker found the net 11 times in 34 appearances, although just 15 of those appearances came from the start.
Jackson will now be given the opportunity to kickstart his career in a permanent move away from Stamford Bridge, placing a number of Europe's top clubs on alert.
Could Aston Villa beat their rivals to sign Jackson?
Despite the increasing level of interest in signing Jackson this summer, it appears Aston Villa are in a strong position to beat their rivals to his signature before the window closes.
Unai Emery's side have been long-term admirers of the striker, and his relationship with the boss from their time at Villarreal could play a key role in their pursuit.
Former Aston Villa CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider last month that Villa Park would be an ideal destination for Jackson as he aims to get his career back on track.
The link between Emery and Jackson is believed to be vital, with Villa stepping up their pursuit of a new striker as a priority in the closing stages of the window.
Chelsea are set to weigh up all of their options as they aim to get the best deal possibly for Jackson, but given the pre-existing relationship, Villa feel they have an advantage.
