Ex-Villa scout raves about Aston Villa youngster who's the 'Ollie Watkins replacement'
Nicolas Jackson will be benched behind a 17-year-old Aston Villa star if he does not pass this latest test at Villa Park.
That is according to experienced former Tottenham, Everton and Aston Villa scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.
The Villans saw numerous of their top stars depart in the summer, following their success in the Europa League.
One of which was striker Ollie Watkins, who left England to move to Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal.
Unai Emery dipped into the market to replace the outgoing Englishman, with Jackson brought into the club.
However, the answer to losing Watkins may already have been in B6 the whole time.
Brian Madjo tipped to take over from Ollie Watkins at Aston Villa
Replacing Watkins was never going to be an easy task for Aston Villa.
While Nicolas Jackson has scored in his last two games, doubts remain over the Senegalese striker and his long-term impact.
But those two finishes will certainly help move the narrative in a positive direction.
However, Aston Villa's rising star Brian Madjo has been tipped to possibly be the replacement for Watkins, rather than the former Chelsea man with the African forward set a challenge.
"When you've got a centre-forward who's been scoring regularly, anywhere between 15 and 20 goals for the football club, an England International, who is allowed to leave the football club, you really are going to have to go after quality," King told Football Insider.
"I know they have this young kid, Madjo, as well, haven't they? They've got a young boy there, 17 or 18.
"He reminds me a little bit of Lukaku. For me, he looks as though he could be the Watkins replacement, but he's still young, and he's got plenty to learn.
"Nicolas Jackson has got, for me, up to Christmas to prove that he can score 10 or 12 goals."
Nicolas Jackson time to impress running out
Jackson has had a pretty free run at the number nine position so far, with Madjo picking up an injury before the season started.
Additionally, Tammy Abraham has fallen far down Emery's plans, with the Englishman yet to start a Premier League game.
However, Madjo featured in a friendly over the international break, showcasing that he is now available for selection.
Jackson will now have competition, and if he does not meet the expectations required, Emery can turn to the 17-year-old instead.
