Sources: Harvey Elliott update after new Liverpool talks
Valencia have made an offer to Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott, sources have told Football Insider.
The Spanish side are in talks with the Merseyside giants over a loan move for the 23-year-old, who has been given the green light to join a new club this summer.
The former England Under-21s international featured regularly in pre-season but has been omitted from Andoni Iraola's first two squads of the Premier League season.
Elliott is in line to leave Liverpool permanently next summer when his contract expires, if an extension is not agreed before he goes out on loan.
The midfielder is desperate to rekindle his career after it hit a significant stumbling block last season at Aston Villa.
The Villans signed Elliott on loan with a conditional £35million obligation to buy, but Unai Emery appeared to change his mind and handed him just 277 minutes of football throughout the season.
What has gone wrong for Harvey Elliott?
The plunging decline Elliott's career trajectory has undergone in recent years has been extraordinarily sudden, considering that there is no injury to blame.
The 2023-24 season saw the youngster make 53 appearances across all competitions for Jurgen Klopp's side, scoring four goals and providing 11 assists.
And even when Arne Slot's appointment saw his playing time reduced, the midfielder still looked set for a good move after a fantastic Under-21 European Championship campaign that saw him awarded player of the tournament as England won it.
On paper, Villa were that good move for Elliott, and should have been the home for the next stage of his development - he even scored on his debut.
But then his removal from the team began, and the former Fulham man was never given the opportunity to convince Emery that he was wrong.
It is unclear exactly why that decision was made, but it has undoubtedly had a huge impact on Elliott's future prospects.
What Elliott said about Aston Villa loan
Despite constant speculation surrounding his absence, Emery constantly insisted that Elliott was being left out for tactical reasons.
What became obvious, however, was that the midfielder's £35m obligation to buy would trigger if he made 10 appearances - he made nine.
"He [Emery] explained very, very clearly and a fair few times. The whole club were very apologetic about the situation and, ultimately, it was a situation that I couldn’t control," Elliott said in July.
"But I knew 100% what the case was. It was like, ‘Ok, I can get over it, I know what the situation is now’. It was just about me handling it and showing my professionalism. I’m not that kind of guy who wanted to kick up a fuss and cause problems, because no one really deserves that.
"It’s just part of football and it was a learning curve for me and an opportunity that I hope I don’t experience again. But it’s a situation where I know I’ve been able to get through it."
