Harvey Elliott's future is yet to be solved after being included in Liverpool's pre-season plans under Andoni Iraola.

The 23-year-old was given a chance to impress ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, having returned from a strenuous loan spell at Aston Villa.

Due to clauses in the loan deal, his football was extremely limited under Unai Emery, but the former Jurgen Klopp favourite featured a lot during pre-season back at Anfield.

However, the Reds kicked off their Premier League campaign against Newcastle United on Sunday, 23 August, and Elliott was nowhere to be seen.

Dominik Szoboszlai scored a 96th-minute penalty to secure a point, coming away from St James' Park after somewhat of a disappointing display.

Liverpool were desperate for attacking reinforcements, but Iraola is showing no signs of bringing the 23-year-old back into the fold this season.

Andoni Iraola all but confirms no future for Harvey Elliott

Supporters hoped that Elliott would make an emotional return to Anfield and shine under a new manager, but that is far from what's happened.

In his most recent press conference, Iraola said that he "prefers other options" and "can only pick 20 players," which is why 21-year-old James McConnell was chosen instead.

Youngsters Lewis Koumas and Trey Nyoni, 19, were also on trusted in the first-team squad, while Wataru Endo made a return from injury.

Only those inside Anfield will know the true reasons behind his struggles over the last few seasons, but it is utterly baffling from the outside.

There are bound to be clubs interested in the 23-year-old's signature, but time is running out for one to come forward and enter into advanced talks.

Who could sign Elliott this summer?

There is less than a week remaining of the summer transfer window, and there has been very little movement around the young attacker.

Despite interest from Leeds United, Keith Wyness told Football Insider that RB Leipzig are currently the favourites to seal a move.

Daniel Farke might be able to get the best out of the attacker if he is to remain in the Premier League, but game time might still be limited at Elland Road.

Elliott simply cannot stay at Anfield this season, though. There is no future him there, even with a new manager in charge.
