Sources: Tottenham make move to sign Emiliano Martinez
Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a move for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, Football Insider understands.
Roberto De Zerbi's side are exploring a deal for the 33-year-old Argentina shot-stopper after agreeing to sell Guglielmo Vicario to Juventus.
The Italian giants had been in talks to sign Martinez have instead decided to sign the Spurs keeper.
Football Insider understands that the Villans are open to selling the 2022 World Cup winner, having just signed a new No.1 in Zion Suzuki.
Despite Martinez being the long-established first choice at Villa Park, it is believed that Suzuki will come straight in to the starting line-up in the 2026-27 campaign.
The Argentine could now be set for a move across the Premier League after six years with Villa, amassing 257 appearances and one Europa League title.
Emi Martinez edges closer to Aston Villa exit
Many fans at Villa Park feel that Martinez has brought this position upon himself, seemingly pushing for an exit whenever a transfer window opens.
The 33-year-old hired super-agent Jorge Mendes last summer in an attempt to secure a move away, even appearing to wave goodbye in the final away game of 2024-25.
A move never materialised, and now Unai Emery has a new option between the sticks in Suzuki, who was a shining star throughout the 2026 World Cup with Japan.
Should Vicario seal his move to Juventus, De Zerbi would be left with Antonin Kinsky, Martin Dubravka and Brandon Austin, so a move would make sense.
Spurs have been searching for a standout goalkeeper since Hugo Lloris left in 2024, a figure who made nearly 500 appearances for the club over 12 years.
Who else could Tottenham sign this summer?
Time is quickly ticking away for these deals to be done, especially with the new Premier League campaign kicking off on Friday, 21 August.
Cody Gakpo remains a huge talking point in North London, but Liverpool are not keen to sell the Dutchman, with Mohamed Salah not even replaced yet.
Folarin Balogun and Omar Marmoush are also names being linked, with a clear desire to improve in the final third before the new season starts.
Football Insider revealed earlier this summer that the latter could force a late move away, but it remains to be seen if Spurs are likely to make a move.
