Sources: Aston Villa to complete signing this week after getting 'green light'
Aston Villa are set to get the signing of Freiburg midfielder Johan Manzambi over the line before the end of the week, sources have told Football Insider.
The attacking midfielder has already given the "green light" over a move to Villa Park, and has a clear preference to join Unai Emery's group.
Villa have worked quickly to put themselves in a position to hijack Newcastle's move, and have matched their £49million offer for the 20-year-old.
The second city outfit are now "hopeful" that they can get the deal finalised as quickly as possible, to end any hopes of the Magpies resurrecting their deal.
Manzambi shone for Freiburg with seven goals and six assists in all competitions last season, before notching three goals and two assists for Switzerland at the World Cup.
Injury ruled him out of his country's final two knock-out games, but he has still done enough to earn himself a chance in the Premier League next term.
Ex-Villa CEO shares Johan Manzambi personality reveal
Former Villa chief executive Keith Wyness recently told Football Insider that anything under the £50m mark would be a "good price" for Manzambi this summer.
The Scottish businessman was hugely impressed by the starlet's displays at the World Cup, and feels that he is well-placed to make a big impact in the Premier League.
He suggested that Manzambi has the right "athletic capability" to be a success at the top level of English football.
Wyness also noted that he has "heard" that the youngster is a "decent character," and is keen to continue pushing himself at the highest possible level of football.
Villa's move for Manzambi is a big investment given the context of their SCR situation, in a summer when they are not expected to spend heavily.
Nevertheless, after beating Manzambi's Freiburg side in May's Europa League final, they are now set to add him to their ranks for next season.
Aston Villa quoted £50m to sign Antonio Nusa
Football Insider revealed last weekend that Villa will need at least £50m if they want to sign Antonio Nusa this summer.
The winger enjoyed an impressive season for RB Leipzig last term, with five goals and four assists, and also caught the eye for Norway at the World Cup.
Nusa has a queue of Premier League sides tracking his progress at the moment, but it will need a significant financial commitment to get him this summer.
Emery and Co. are big admirers of the 21-year-old, but it remains to be seen whether they are capable of bringing in both him and Manzambi.
