Aston Villa and Chelsea remain keen to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall, sources have told Football Insider.

The pair both made approaches for the 20-year-old back in January, and their interest hasn't faded at all in recent months.

Bergvall is now pushing to leave Tottenham ahead of next season, and has made it clear that he is keen to explore a new challenge elsewhere.

The Sweden international is also subject to growing interest from across Europe, with clubs ready to act now that he has made his feelings clear.

Sources have indicated that it is currently an "open race" to sign the Spurs starlet in the coming months.

Both Villa and Chelsea will be part of that race, but it remains to be seen whether either will do enough to win it.

Aston Villa and Chelsea return after failed enquiries

Villa and Chelsea both made enquiries regarding Bergvall's future during the winter window, but were quickly knocked back by Tottenham on both occasions.

The Lilywhites were keen to keep hold of the promising young talent, and that remains the case this summer, despite him making noises about a move.

However, that has done little to deter Villa and Chelsea, who both see Bergvall as a player who could immediately improve their squads.

Nottingham Forest have also taken a significant interest in recent days, and view him as a potential replacement for Elliot Anderson.

The player is currently away at the World Cup with Sweden, where he is still waiting for his first start after their opening two group games.

Sources: Aston Villa make Zion Suzuki transfer decision after terms agreed on another deal

Aston Villa add new face to Emi Martinez replacement shortlist

Football Insider recently revealed that Villa have added Zion Suzuki to their shortlist of goalkeeping targets to replace Emi Martinez this summer.

The Argentine is edging towards a move to Juventus, which has prompted Unai Emery and Co. to consider their options to take over from him.

Parma star Suzuki is seen as a strong candidate to don the gloves at Villa Park next term, and is also viewed as a more cost-effective option than James Trafford.

It has been widely reported that Manchester City could sell him for £40million this summer, while the fee for Suzuki is expected to be far smaller.
