Emiliano Buendia's contract news has supporters debating over which Aston Villa player should be next to sign across the dotted line.

Multiple players are coming to the end of their current deals at Villa Park, but full focus right now is on being successful on the pitch.

And that's exactly what Unai Emery's side did on Wednesday, 21 October, beating Viking 3-1 to move up to second in the Champions League standings.

The Villans had taken top spot until Peter Christiansen found the back of the net for the visitors. Still, it has been an incredible start.

Emery will be hoping for his team to translate that form over to the Premier League, where they currently sit 12th after seven games.

Despite that, there have been some incredible individual performances, some deserving of new contracts before they run out next summer.

Tyrone Mings impresses for Aston Villa again

Victor Lindelof and George Hemmings are both believed to be in advancing talks over fresh terms, but it is one of their teammates who stole the spotlight.

With Taylor Harwood-Bellis not doing enough to earn valuable minutes just yet, Emery has turned to the trustworthy veteran in Tyrone Mings.

The 33-year-old has been in and out of the lineup over the last three seasons, often due to injury, and his contract is now set to expire next summer.

He proved against Viking why he still has energy left in his legs in what was his second consecutive 90-minute match after facing Newcastle United.

In 90 minutes, he completed 82 per cent of his passes, five of which were line-breaking, made three clearances, three recoveries and one block, and also won 100 per cent of his ground duels [FotMob].

Frustrating the opposition, he even won two fouls. As one of the oldest in the squad, Emery can't afford to lose his experience at the back.

Does Emi Buendia deserve his new deal?

Somehow, Buendia's contract news is causing some debate, despite him notching 11 goals and nine assists in 54 appearances last term.

He has three goals this season, including one against Viking, and the Champions League display was one of his best of the campaign so far.

He created the joint-most chances (three), took seven shots, missed two big chances, dived into 10 duels, and just dictated the final third [FotMob].

So to answer the question, Buendia absolutely deserves to sign a new contract at Villa Park. It's really a simple decision.
