Atalanta 'desperate' to sell Romero to Tottenham after latest update
Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Tottenham are being “clever” as they edge closer to signing Cristian Romero from Atalanta.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward insisted Romero and Pierluigi Gollini would be “two good signings for the club”.
Gollini moved to north London from Atalanta on 24 July on a season-long loan deal with an option to make the deal permanent.
Football Insider learned the day before that they had agreed personal terms with his teammate Romero.
TalkSPORT then reported today (1 August) that the Serie A club have finally accepted a Spurs bid worth over £43million.
The defender, 23, enjoyed a breakout campaign in Seria A and was named as the league’s best defender.

His form earned him a place in the Argentia squad that won this summer’s Copa America.
Asked why Spurs had targeted two players from the same club, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “They might be being clever and have seen it as a club that always needs to sell players and they can’t turn down offers for their players.
“Maybe it’s a bit of cleverness from Spurs who maybe know the club inside out and know they can get their better players for a bit less.
“It could be very clever from Spurs and they would be two good signings for the club.”
As well as Gollini, Tottenham have added Bryan Gil to Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad.
Erik Lamela joined Sevilla as part of that deal while Toby Alderweireld and Juan Foyth have also left the club this summer.
