Balogun tipped to leave Arsenal after January transfer reveal - pundit

Kevin Campbell has backed Arsenal youngster Folarin Balogun to join Middlesbrough on loan in January.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Highbury favourite claimed the 20-year-old “needs to get roughed up” as Under-23s football “is not really men’s football”.

As quoted by Football.London (November 12th), Balogun revealed he is “ready for a new challenge” and suggested a loan move is a real possibility.

According to The Sun’s Alan Nixon (November 14th), new Middlesbrough manager Chris Wilder has set his sights on the striker ahead of January.

Campbell believes a move to the Riverside would be “great” for Balogun’s development.

“I’m sure Balogun will go out on loan,” he told Football Insider.

“A move to Middlesbrough would be good for all parties.

“When Wilder was at Sheffield United he wanted him on loan. Of course, Wilder has moved club now.

“Balogun needs game time. He needs to be playing and learning his trade playing first team football.

“In all honesty, Under-23 and Under-21 football is not really men’s football. He needs to be playing against men.

“He needs to get roughed up a bit and understand what he can and can’t do. Only experienced players will test his talent.

“I think Middlesbrough would be a great move for him.”

Balogun has made three senior appearances for Mikel Arteta’s side this season.

In Premier League 2, he has scored a staggering 10 goals in eight games.
