Accoridng to BB journalist David Ornstein, meetings were held but it was decided that he was too inexperienced for Arsenal.
He added that there were no further developments in either the swap move between Alexis Sanchez and Henrikh Mkhitaryan with Man United, or the transfer of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

No developments expected today on Sanchez/Mkhitaryan. Still work to do as currently Mkhitaryan deal hasn't moved on & could yet go either way. Arsenal hopeful on that + Aubameyang. Talks continue. Malcom off – meetings held but eventually deemed too inexperienced #AFC #MUFC #BVB

Ornstein did say that Arsenal were hopeful over both Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang deals, but that the former could go either way.
Football Insider verdict:
This isn’t bad news for Arsenal – and it could be very good news. The Gunners pulled the plug on this deal because the winger was too inexperienced but the club knows that it has to bring fresh players in or risk chaos with the clubs fans and miss out on the top four. By pulling out of this deal it hints that they’re extremely confident that they will be able to close out Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang. Those two would have been the fan’s preferred choice of the three and they will have their fingers crossed for more developments today.
