Ben White’s stats justify Everton interest as full details of Arsenal masterclass vs Atletico Madrid emerge

Everton are expected to make a move for Arsenal defender Ben White if he decides to leave the club this summer.

The right-back is under contract until 2028 with the Gunners, but there have been growing suspicions that he will depart in the coming months.

Everton are in need of defensive signings this summer, and the 28-year-old brings a superb pedigree from his five years at the Emirates Stadium.

White featured as Arsenal beat Atletico Madrid 1-0 on Tuesday to book their place in the Champions League final later this month, with Bukayo Saka’s goal proving the difference.

Everton transfer chiefs may well have been watching on with keen interest, with the England international catching the eye.

Ben White rolls back the years vs Atletico Madrid

Football Insider exclusively revealed in March that Arsenal plan to offload White and Gabriel Jesus this summer in a bid to recoup funds.

Injury problems have been recurring for White in recent years, with many of the issues expected to have stemmed from the 2023-24 season.

The Englishman was forced to cover for the injured Jurrien Timber and played through pain of his own to make 51 appearances across all competitions.

The years since have seen the England international suffer for that decision, but recent weeks have seen him look to return to full fitness.

Timber’s injury has seen White required once more, and he has responded well, with his performance as Arsenal progressed to the Champions League final on Tuesday the highlight.

The right-back was vital defensively for the Gunners, constantly coming up with key interventions to keep the home side in front.

It was a White performance of three years ago, and a clear indication that he still has much to give, even if that is with another club.

World Cup could delay Ben White move

Everton will hope that Thomas Tuchel does not select White for his squad going to this summer’s World Cup in North America.

The 28-year-old was brought back into the fold for matches against Uruguay and Japan in March, and his involvement would delay any decision over his future.

It has not yet been ruled out that Mikel Arteta and Arsenal will ultimately decide that the 28-year-old must stay put this summer.

But Everton’s hope is that White’s hunger for a bigger role will lead him to Hill Dickinson Stadium in the coming months.
