Benitez issues firm response to major accusations targeted at Newcastle manager
Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez has firmly denied accusations that he did not show midfielder Jack Colback any respect after casting him out from the first team squad.
The former Sunderland man was an important member of the Magpies side which secured promotion as champions from the Championship last season, but found himself deemed surplus to requirements over the summer and told that he could leave the club.
However, after remaining on Tyneside after the window shut, he failed to battle his way back into the first team reckoning, failing to make a single senior appearance before leaving to second tier side Nottingham Forest.
Following his departure, Colback proceeded to lash out at the Spanish manager, accusing Benitez of showing him “no respect” and that he was left feeling like a “number more than a human being”.
However, the Newcastle boss has rejected the midfielder’s serious allegations and insisted he showed him the utmost respect in dealing with his situation, confirming that he did indeed green light his exit last summer.
Speaking to the Chronicle, who claim that there were further falling outs between the duo prior to Colback departing for the City Ground, he said:” I will tell you that we treated him 100 per cent with total respect.
“I am telling you that we treated him with 100 per cent total respect. A lot of respect.”
Colback has a total of 102 appearances under his belt for Newcastle since arriving on a free from north east rivals Sunderland, and now has two outings for Forest to his name.
In other Newcastle United news, fans should be getting very excited for the future after Benitez’s success in January.
