Newcastle are set to omit last season’s midfield mainstay Jack Colback from their 25-man Premier League squad, according to a report.
The Shields Gazette have claimed on their website that the 27-year-old is not part of manager Rafa Benitez’ plans and will not feature in the Magpies’ 2017-18 squad after being left out of Sunday’s final pre-season friendly clash against Hellas Verona.
It is said that the north east giants must hand in their squad list to the Premier League by Friday as they prepare for a season opening clash at home against Tottenham on Sunday.
Colback himself has been a part of the Newcastle team since 2014 after making the move from fierce rivals Sunderland three years a go.
He has since played 102 times for the club in total, returning five goals and 10 assists and of those appearances 34 of them came in all competitions in the last campaign.
The combative central midfield player also still has two years remaining on his contract at the club, but it is now looking as though his future lies away from St. James’ Park.
Newcastle have also added Mikel Merino to their central midfield ranks this summer, while they already have Isaac Hayden, Jonjo Shelvey and Mohamed Diame in the squad.
In other Newcastle news, a Premier League side are waiting to see whether the Magpies will make a return for their striker.
