PL club waiting to see if Newcastle will return for striker - report

Premier League outfit Stoke are waiting to see whether Newcastle will return with an improved offer for striker Joselu, according to a report.
Midlands news outlet the Sentinel has claimed on it’s website that the Potters dismissed an opening bid from the Magpies for the 27-year-old last week as it was seen as “derisory” by the club’s hierarchy.
It is also said that the figure offered as a “fraction” of the £12million which was reported by the Mirror over the weekend.
But, there could be some hope for the Magpies giants in securing the Spaniard with it reported that Stroke would want to recoup “most” of the £5.75million they paid Hannover for his services in 2015, meaning he should certainly be within Newcastle’s budget.
Joselu even spent the last campaign away from Stoke with La Liga outit Deportivo de la Coruna, where he played 24 times in all competitions, returning six goals.

Football Insider verdict:
Player valuations have heavily inflated this summer, but that does not mean Joselu is a £12million player and if Newcastle had bid that amount then it would certainly have brought the alarm bells. There are far better players around the world that one who has scored just four goals in 22 Premier League appearances available at the same price. Now, it is more likely that the figure was fed to the media in an attempt for Newcastle to save face and show that they are willing to spend some money this summer. However, they certainly shouldn’t go anywhere near £12million for Joselu.
In other Newcastle transfer news, this 2016 summer signing is keen on a switch to Serie A.
