Darren Bent has urged Tottenham to send Ryan Sessegnon out on loan to a Premier League rival before the end of the transfer window.
The former Spurs and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, admits he “really feels” for the 20-year-old after a difficult first season in north London.
As revealed by Football Insider last week, Mourinho has pulled a U-turn and given a temporary move the green light after he previously blocked Sessegnon’s exit ahead of the new season.
The left-footer played just 12 times last season after his £25million move from Fulham and is yet to feature during the 2020/21 campaign.
Bent admits his heart goes out the young prospect and insists he needs to be playing regular top-flight football this term.
Bent told Football Insider: “Listen, it’s a tough one, Mourinho, for whatever reason, it seems to me that he isn’t really sold on him. I really feel for him because I like Sessegnon.
“Surely he can go on loan somewhere and get first-team football somewhere in the Premier League because I’m a fan of his.
“Maybe the jump to Spurs came a little bit too soon, you could maybe say he didn’t get enough game time to show everybody what he was about. It’s one of them, he can’t sit on the bench for another season.
“He needs to go out, get himself playing football and hopefully that will be soon.”
Sessegnon has played 41 times in the Premier League to date after he spells with Fulham and Spurs, although only six of those appearances came for the north Londoners.
He has the likes of Ben Davies and Sergio Reguilon to battle with for a place at left-back and Heung-min Son, Erik Lamela and Gareth Bale in attack.
