Betting latest: Rangers installed favourites to sign 23-goal top-flight striker, Celtic high in betting

By Harry Sykes

Rangers have been installed as the favourites to sign Hibernian striker Jason Cummings, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

Bet Victor priced the Scottish giants at 3/1 on Friday morning to land the in-demand forward before the summer transfer window shuts on 4 September.

Rangers are joint favourites in the market with relegated Premier League club Sunderland, followed in the betting by bitter rivals Celtic and Championship giants Leeds United, who are both 6/1.

Cummings is a player in demand on the back of a prolific season in which he has spearheaded Hibernian’s return to the Scottish Premiership.

The striker, 21, has scored 23 goals in all competitions for Neil Lennon’s side, with 19 of those strikes coming in 31 league matches as well as six assists..

It is the kind of goal return that has been beyond any of the Rangers strikers this season, with Martyn Waghorn, Kenny Miller, Joe Garner and Joe Dodoo failing to come close to breaking the 20-goal barrier.

Celtic and Leeds have had prolific scorers this season, with Chris Wood topping the Championship scoring charts with his 27 goals this season, while Moussa Dembele has netted 32 times in all competitions for Celtic.

But, like Rangers, Celtic and Leeds are likely to be in the market for forward reinforcements as they face battles to hang on to their main men.

In other Rangers transfer news, the day of the long knives has continued as Caixinha has bombed another senior player out of Ibrox.
