Newcastle United have been installed as the second favourites to sign Arsenal’s Theo Walcott, behind West Ham, by the bookies.

Ladbrokes have priced the potential move at 9/4 despite the club not being directly linked to the attacker as of yet.

The Hammers, who are the favourites, were reported as interested as soon it was revealed that Arsene Wenger was willing to let Walcott go in January.

The Magpies are ahead of Everton in the betting despite reports suggesting that the club had already made enquires about his availability.

Walcott’s former club Southampton have also been reported to be keen and are the fourth and final team in the betting.

The attacker has only made 10 appearances across all competitions for the Gunners this season, but has played a total of 393 appearances for the club where he has scored 65 Premier League goals.

He’s renowned for his electric pace and direct play, and has eight goals and 48 caps for England.

Football Insider Verdict

Rafa Benitez would be thrilled to add a proven Premier League performer like Theo Walcott to his squad as his side battles relegation. The attacker will be eager to make a quick start as he could still make England’s World Cup squad in the summer, if he starts playing regularly. The Magpies have struggled for goals this season, and Walcott has proven he can grab goals even when he’s not playing up front. Benitez’s side face tough competition for Walcott as the ace might choose to go to West Ham as it’s closer to home and he has a young family. Despite this, Newcastle United should go all out to sign the available ace as he could be the boost they need in January. As for Walcott, he might fancy the chance of becoming a hero up north – he’s certainly got the talent, but for some reason it hasn’t clicked at Arsenal.
