'Beyond a joke', 'Absolutely pathetic' – Newcastle fans react as huge transfer development reported
Newcastle fans are absolutely gutted after it was reported that a 6pm deadline had passed for striker Nicolai Jorgensen, without an improved bid being made for the striker.
Dutch outlet AD claimed that Feyenoord had set the deadline as they have a crunch cup quarter-final against PSV on Wednesday and don’t want anything to disrupt their preparations.
It is claimed that Newcastle did table two bids, with the second one being for £15million but Feyenoord were holding out for at least £17.5million and the deal now looks dead in the water.
One fan pointed out that the club missed out on a player from haggling over £5million when relegation could cost them that many, many times over.
Another fan just summed up his feelings by saying, “Absolutely pathetic”.
Rafa Benitez will now have to turn his attention to other striker targets with time fast running out before the Wednesday deadline.
Here is a selection of reactions from gutted newcastle fans on hearing the news:
#boom #nufc seems like penfold mixed the time zones up! Useless git! Deadline passes and no further bid by @NUFC ! Not that we need a striker!

So we’re not getting Sturridge. We’re not getting Jorgensen. Who are we getting? It’s the 29th January ffs. #nufc

Don’t know enough about Jorgensen to say if it’s fair or not. But the selling club usually decide and if that’s the price they want it’s then our job to say no straight away or get close to meeting it – hope he does well for you for the rest of the season!

Haggled on Jorgensen for the sake of £5m, and wont do takeover talks as the interested party wont pay an extra £50m, its all insignificant if we go down and lose on £100m worth of TV money.
And then what? The eejit is stuck with an asset he'll never sell for what he wants

It's the hope that kills you, we bit max £15 mil for Jorgensen they always wanted £25mil. Sturridge were we actually in for him west Brom got him from us really easily and we have waited until almost 3 weeks into the transfer window to 'try' to get players

2pm – checks Twitter, buying Jorgensen and Sturridge. Staying up ????????
5pm – checks Twitter, buying nobody. Going down ????????#nufc

Jorgensen deal off, Sturridge chooses WBA, why am I not surprised. If Charnley doesn’t fall in his sword on Feb 1 it’ll be a disgrace. As for Ashley, please just do a deal and get out of the club before March, that way we might just keep Rafa!!

And now Jorgensen ain't coming so the "looking to break our record" signing ain't happening. It's beyond a joke.
