Rangers are making progress on signing Bournemouth defender Jack Simpson as they work on a pre-contract deal, sources have told Football Insider.

But a potential agreement for his Cherries teammate Nnamdi Ofoborh is not quite there yet.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that there is increasing hope the club can beat English teams to the capture of Simpson, 24, and a move can soon be finalised.

There is concrete interest in midfielder Ofoborh but negotiations are not yet at the advanced stage.

The Light Blues have set their sights on luring the two Bournemouth stars this year as they look to take advantage of their availability this year.

Simpson and Ofoborh are both out of contract at the Vitality Stadium at the end of the season

That has given encouragement to their suitors, who include the Scottish Premiership's runaway leaders.

It is understood that Rangers recruitment chief Ross Wilson is close to the defender's agent and that could help smooth a potential deal.

Simpson has played 35 times for Bournemouth and been capped by England at Under-21 level.

Ofoborh, a young midfielder who can also slot in at centre-back, has made five Cherries appearances, although he is still waiting for his first league start.
