Collymore makes alternative claim about Tottenham v Chelsea semi-final
By Danny Wright
Stan Collymore is certain that Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final clash between Tottenham and Chelsea could provide the winner with the momentum to win the Premier League.
Manchester United beat Antonio Conte’s side 2-0 on Easter Sunday meaning that there is now just a four-point gap between the two London rivals.
Mauricio Pochettino masterminded his Spurs side to a 4-0 thrashing of Bournemouth the day before to earn their seventh win in a row while Chelsea suffered their second defeat in four games.
Collymore, who played for Liverpool in the 1996 FA Cup final, thinks that the winners of this weekend’s affair could see them go on to become potential double winners in an alternative view of the impact of the eagerly anticipated showdown.
“One thing is for sure, when I’m at Wembley for BoyleSports this coming Cup Semi weekend, neither Conte or Poch will be treating this as a phoney war,” wrote Collymore in his column on the BoyleSports website, “Both will now have to go for it, and you know what?

“The winner for me not only gets a return visit to Wembley, but takes the biggest prize of them all. The League.”
Arsenal or Manchester City would await one of Conte or Pochettino’s sides in the final to set up what could potentially be an all-London cup final.
The two titles contenders have six games remaining of their league campaigns and Tottenham have arguably the hardest run-in.
They only have two home games remaining and both are going to be tough fixtures against the Gunners and Man United.
On the other hand, five of Chelsea’s games are either against relegation battlers or mid-table teams whose seasons are effectively over.
