Birmingham City are close to agreeing the permanent signing of Rangers defender Ben Davies after having a bid accepted, sources have told Football Insider.

The two clubs are in advanced talks over a £750,000 transfer of the centre-back, 29.

Sources say the deal is expected to be finalised when Davies has recovered from a minor injury.

The defender, who can also play at left-back, spent last season on loan at Birmingham.

He has a Rangers contract that runs until the summer of 2026.

Birmingham in advanced talks over ex-Liverpool defender

Davies already has a wealth of Championship experience, making 151 appearances in the division across spells at Preston North End and Sheffield United.

The 29-year-old made a shock move to Liverpool back in February 2021, at a time when the Reds had a number of centre-backs out injured, but never played a senior game for the club.

Last season, Davies started 32 League One games for Birmingham, as they secured promotion to the Championship in record-breaking fashion, picking up 111 points.

The Blues have already been extremely busy in the summer transfer window, bringing in the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi and Tommy Doyle as they look to threaten the upper reaches of the second tier in the upcoming campaign.

Birmingham eye Tottenham star

Meanwhile, Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Tottenham have reluctantly agreed to let Mikey Moore go out on loan in the upcoming season.

The winger has attracted strong interest from a number of top Championship clubs, with Birmingham and West Brom both keen to bring him in.

Spurs had initially not wanted Moore to go out on loan and viewed him as a part of Thomas Franks' squad.

But sources have told Football Insider there has now been a change of heart at Spurs and they are now prepared to grant the forward sensation his wish.
