Ndombele saga is ending badly for Tottenham after 'very strange' update - McAvennie

Frank McAvennie

Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Frank McAvennie is predicting a messy end to the Tanguy Ndombele transfer saga as his Tottenham future remains unresolved.

The former West Ham striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest on the out of favour midfielder.

However, Spurs did not receive any suitable offers for the France international.

He has not played a minute of football for Spurs this season.

Now, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato (5th September), the London club plan to use Ndombele as a makeweight in a bid to sign AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie.

"It's very strange," McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

"Why keep a player who doesn't want to be there? Obviously an offer didn't come in.

"You have to question why they signed him. The thing for me is that we haven't heard from the player.

"Surely he would want to defend himself? We haven't heard. He cost them so much money and he's not part of the team.

"It's bizarre to be honest. But we've seen it before and it rarely ends well for the club or player.

"Who knows what will happen now. Will he come back in at some point? It doesn't sound like it.

"You can't leave him out for months but it doesn't look good for him."
