Hamilton Academical have agreed to sign Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Joe Hilton, Football Insider understands.

Rovers announced earlier this week that the shot-stopper, 21, has penned a new two-year deal.

A recruitment source told Football Insider that the Championship club have now given the green light for Hilton to return to Scotland for a second loan.

Terms have been agreed with Hamilton and he will spend next season at the club, who will be in next season’s Scottish Championship following their relegation.

Hilton was at Scottish Premiership outfit Ross County last term.

He is one of a number of youngsters to commit their futures to Blackburn in recent weeks.

Sam Burns, Jake Garrett, Joe Rankin-Costello, Dan Pike and Scott Wharton have all penned fresh terms at Ewood Park too.

The 6 ft 6 in shot-stopper make his senior debut in an EFL Trophy clash against Hull City last season during a three-match emergency loan spell with nearby Fleetwood Town in January.

Later that month he joined Ross County on loan until the end of the season but failed to make an appearance as they narrowly avoided relegation on the final day of the season.

He will hope to get more game-time with Hamilton in the second-tier of Scottish football.

Thomas Kaminski is Blackburn's first-choice goalkeeper and was crowned Player of the Year ahead of 28-goal Adam Armstrong.

Aynsley Pears and Antonis Stergiakis, who both signed for Rovers last summer, are also above Hilton in the pecking order when it comes to the number one spot.
