Alex Scott set for 'three-game Premier League ban' - ex-refs chief re-analyses Bournemouth controversy

Alex Scott is unlikely to be available for Bournemouth's opening games of the new Premier League season after unsavoury scenes.

That is according to former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA referee, Keith Hackett, who exclusively told Football Insider that the 22-year-old should be facing a "three-match ban".

During the Cherries' 2-2 draw against Real Betis on Saturday, 8 August, a friendly between the two sides, both Scott and Antony, formerly of Manchester United, were sent off.

The pair clashed on the stroke of half-time, causing a huge melee between the two teams, which also saw Bournemouth's No.8 walk off holding his face.

It was unclear exactly what happened during the confrontation, but the referee's actions would suggest acts of violence, which should automatically end with a three-match ban.

Marco Rose's side have one more friendly remaining against Mainz before travelling to Manchester City on Sunday, 23 August, then a clash with Everton at the Vitality Stadium.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Hackett stated that Scott should be forced to miss all three of these after a huge clash in Seville.

"That will be the outcome. If it's an act of violent conduct, then it's a three game ban," he said.

"Players, managers and teams have to understand that, when they're playing friendly games, these are the things that can happen, and the FA will follow through.

"I think it's going to be interesting to see, with some clarity, what the outcome will be. The player should certainly receive a three-match ban.

"But the FA cannot action take any action unless they've got the appropriate information from the Spanish authorities."

Marco Rose could lose Scott before the window closes

Scott's absence may not be the Cherries' problem for much longer, with several teams keeping an eye on the 22-year-old this summer.

Chelsea are understood to be huge admirers of the centre-midfielder, even having a bid knocked back for his services, while Man United remain in the race.

Speaking to Football Insider, Mick Brown believes that Michael Carrick's side could "steal a march" on their Premier League rivals for the player's signature.

Replacing him would be a huge challenge, though, and Rose may have to do that for the opening Premier League fixtures whether he stays or leaves.
