Brendan Rodgers has revealed that he would love to have Patrick Roberts back at Celtic as his loan on Parkhead draws to a close.
Roberts, 20, has starred during his 18-month loan spell with the Bhoys, picking up two Scottish Premiership titles in the process while on loan from Premier League giants Manchester City.
The former Fulham star has been in sublime form for the Hoops this term, scoring seven goals and laying on an enormous 17 assists during his 42 league and cup appearances under Rodgers.
Speaking at Celtic’s annual awards night, as quoted by the Scottish Sun, Rodgers claimed he would love to take Roberts back but City want him to return to the Etihad in the summer.
“I work with him everyday and everyone sees the qualities that he has. As a young guy coming into the game, he’s an absolutely phenomenal player,” Rodgers said.

“In respect to him, Manchester City want to take him back. So he will go back for the summer. We’d love to have him here and hopefully that will be one day in the future.”
Celtic’s number 27 is now set to return to Pep Guardiola’s side, where he is likely to struggle with competition such as Leroy Sane, Jesus Navas, Nolito and Kevin De Bruyne.
Roberts will learn if he is available to play in the Scottish Cup final on May 27 this week according to the Daily Record, with England Under-20’s World Cup campaign on the horizon.
But the attacker is set to feature against St. Johnstone on Saturday, after starting over James Forrest during the Hoops’ huge 5-1 win over Old Firm rivals Rangers last weekend.
